Let it mellow (10 August 2019)

Our planet is heading for destruction: official. Catastrophic: and also ironic, just 50 years after the amazing feat to get astronauts on the moon. Why stop at destroying one world?

It is easy to feel powerless in this global nightmare; and I fear it will need some sort of collective political will to stop the destruction, which will have to include a reassessment of things like capitlaism, global inequality and what we really, really want in our lives.

But even if it is fiddling while Rome burns, there are a few things you can do to to slow down the disaster and create time for our species to get together. So try these:

 1. Grow more Trees; trees not only help in purifying the air around us but also benefit in million other ways, one of which is climate control

2. Say No to Plastics: plastics are non-biodegradable substances that do not decompose ever. Forget convenience - boycott plastic-wrapped food and other items

3. Use Public Transport: owning personal vehicles now is no more limited to need; rather it has become a status symbol. Try to take the bus or train

4. Do not Litter your surroundings: waste you throw away contains non-biodegradable items which remain there in the environment and sometimes reach to the water bodies and destroy the life there as well.

5. Save Natural Resources: follow the idea of sustainable use and use these resources wisely and judiciously.

6. Rainwater Harvesting: collect rain water in reservoirs, tanks and at a very primary level in rooftops so that it could be used for other purposes in our houses like for watering plants, washing dis

hes etc.

7. Reduce Pollution: cut down use of refrigerators, air conditioners, microwaves, factories, industries motor vehicles etc. - they all contribute to air pollution.

8. Recycle: you can turn waste material into new and usable ones.

9. Spread Awareness: help to get the message out there, including pressuring our loathsome politicians

and a personal favourite of mine:

10: If it's yellow, let it mellow - if it's brown, flush it down!

I found myself picking up the litter today while walking the dog; doing something: take action, don't be passive - and see how you feel at least a bit more empowered

all the best
